Which NPC Deciphers Each Cipher
Every cipher has one camp NPC who genuinely knows it, and the first time you hand that cipher to that NPC they pay a bonus on top of the usual rewards. Give it to anyone else and the bonus is gone for good. Here is the full list, with the two faded words each scroll shows.
Read the scroll, then find the name
A cipher shows two words when you inspect it, and nothing else. Those two words are the only hint the game gives you about who can read it. Match them below to get the NPC.
Three ciphers are worth holding until you can deliver them correctly: Shadow, Mantra and Forbidden pay a Legendary-tier bonus, while the other twelve pay an Epic one. The game does not flag the difference anywhere.

How the bonus works
- A cipher pays nothing until you extract with it. Dying with one in your bag loses it like any other carried loot.
- Any camp NPC will decipher anything, so there is no failure state and no warning. Handing it to the wrong person still pays the base rewards. You just forfeit the bonus, once, permanently, for that type.
- The bonus is a one-time payment per cipher type, not per cipher. Once you have delivered your first Ashen Cipher to Sigrid, every later Ashen Cipher pays only the base rewards wherever you take it.
