Modes & PvP
Is Mistfall Hunter PvP or PvE?
Both. It's a PvPvE extraction ARPG: you drop into a raid to hunt monsters and gather loot, but other players are in the same map and can fight you, and everyone races to extract. The threat is a mix of environment and other Hunters.
Is there a PvE-only or solo mode?
Not in the current build — raids are PvPvE and contain other players. It is the most-requested feature on the Steam forums, and the developers have said they do have plans for a PvE mode in the future while their current focus stays on PvPvE. You can queue alone, but you are not guaranteed an empty lobby.
Can I play solo, and will I get stomped by full squads?
You can queue solo. Players report that your earliest matches lean heavily on bots and only gradually fill with real players as you continue, which softens the first-hour experience — though this is community observation from the demo, not an official spec.
Classes, builds & progression
How many classes are there and which is best?
There are six: Mercenary, Sorcerer, Blackarrow, Shadowstrix, Seer and Withered Knight. During the demo the community rates high-mobility, high-damage classes (notably Shadowstrix) at the top, with Withered Knight and the Seer flagged as needing help — but balance is unfinished.
How do talent points work?
You earn talent points by levelling up — but not on every level. In the current build you reach a maximum of 8 talent points at the level cap (level 12). Each talent tree only unlocks once your character meets its level requirement, and talents within a tree can have prerequisites.
Does my demo progress carry over to the full release?
This has not been officially confirmed. Demo and playtest progress commonly does not transfer to a game's launch, so treat your demo characters as a trial run rather than a head start.
Loot, gear & matchmaking
Can I use gear that dropped for another class?
Loot is tied to your account, not just the character that found it. You can list gear for any class you have on the auction house and sell it, even if your current Hunter can't equip it — so a 'wrong-class' drop still has value.
Why am I matched against players with much better gear?
Matchmaking factors an aggregate Combat Value (gear score). Over-gearing a low-tier raid can place you into tougher lobbies, so a very strong loadout doesn't guarantee easy matches.
How does loot in a group work?
Drops are shared across your group rather than locked to the player who lands the kill, which is why you may see an item meant for a different class go to a teammate. You can still trade or sell it afterwards via the auction house.
Combat
Why does stamina feel like it does nothing while dodging feels fine?
Because they are different resources. Dodging draws from a dedicated Dodge Energy pool, while Stamina powers active defence such as guarding. Low Stamina therefore doesn't stop you dodging — which is why the two feel disconnected.
Is there a way to break out of a stun-lock?
Yes. Escape Energy is a dedicated pool you spend to break free of crowd control instead of waiting out the full disable. Bank some for the moment you actually get caught rather than spending it early.
Technical & release
The game stutters or won't launch — what can I try?
Performance stutter and occasional fatal errors are common demo-build complaints. Standard first steps help: update your GPU drivers, verify the game files through Steam, and lower graphics settings. Persistent fatal errors are best reported to the developers with your crash details.
I got banned or the game is region-locked — what's going on?
Some players (notably on Linux/Proton) have reported anti-cheat false positives, and availability varies by region. These are account/storefront issues rather than gameplay ones — contact the developers or Steam support directly.
When does Mistfall Hunter release?
The full release is scheduled for July 29, 2026. That build is expected to add the confirmed numeric data layer — exact stat values, drop rates and prices.
